Chat (Maris Piper)

Type

Starchy

Description

Chat is not a variety of potatoes but a term given to small, new or baby potatoes. The characteristics will be that of the parent potato. This is a Maris Piper Chat. The Maris Piper is a white to yellow-skinned potato of oval shape with white to cream-coloured flesh.

Chat (Maris Piper)
Origins

The Maris piper originated in Great Britain in 1963.

Uses

Traditionally, Maris Piper has a reputation for being an excellent roast potato. More details will be provided when I review the Maris Piper potato. As a chat it can be used steamed, boiled or baked whole. Being a Maris Piper Chat it would great make smashed potatoes.

I Have Used

I used to boil chat potatoes because I thought steaming would take longer. Steaming is quicker than boiling, and you do not throw the nutrients out with the water. You can also add other vegetables at various times.
